World Wide Travel Vaccines

Wirral Based Vaccine and Immunisation Clinic

What Travel Vaccines Do I Need?

The UK national vaccination programme keeps you and your family protected against UK infections, but when travelling abroad you may need extra protection from infections which affect other parts of the world. Where you are travelling to, and at what time of the year will determine which vaccines you need.

The NHS estimates that almost 1 in 4 British Holidaymakers will travel without receiving adequate vaccinations.

This means they are at risk of contracting potentially life threatening infectious illnesses. They are also putting others at risk and create the potential to bring back un-native infectious diseases to the UK.

Most travel vaccines are suitable for both adults and children. However, there may be some age restrictions to consider. If you are travelling with a baby or toddler, please allow plenty of time ahead of your departure to consult with a Travel Nurse. Here is a list of common vaccines required for travel that we currently offer:

* These vaccines may be available via the NHS. Please consult with your own GP for more information.

  • Hepatitis B (unless combined with hepatitis A
  • Japanese encephalitis
  • Tick-borne encephalitis
  • Meningitis vaccines
  • Rabies
  • Tuberculosis (TB)
  • Yellow fever
  • Diphtheria, polio and tetanus boosters*
  • Cholera vaccine*
  • Typhoid vaccine*
  • Hepatitis A + B (combined) vaccine*

Ideally, you will want to arrange to see your travel nurse at least 6-8 weeks before your holiday so that you may have sufficient time to receive your full course of vaccine prior to departure.

If you are travelling at short notice, or have left your needs to the last minute and are worried about having enough time to receive your vaccination, then please still contact us. Some vaccines can be given at short notice, or courses can be shortened to suit your travel plans. To book an appointment:
